Shameless stool
It is not often that we come across an audacious stool, but the Galata from Mokasser is one that refuses to be ashamed of its status in the furniture hierarchy. On the contrary, it demands its place on the floor as an independent piece of furniture, mystic yet inviting. The fact that it is made from surplus materials from Mokasser’s furniture production only underscores its character.
Panel remarks
The panel was impressed by the clear excess of the Galata. Mokkasser has used surplus materials to recreate and breathe new life into a beautiful and innovative shape that is both friendly and slightly mystical, while the design of the furniture piece itself reeks of playfulness and excess. Or as a member of the panel put it: This stool has a sense of humour.
From a more professional perspective, we would also like to commend the Norwegian company Mokasser in Årnes for its innovative reuse of surplus materials, not to mention the possibility of a flat pack, making it easy to store and transport. Nordic materials from Danish Kvadrat or Gudbrandsdal Ullvarefabrikk are generally used and, with its elliptical shape, it is unmistakably Scandinavian, while at the same time exhibiting vague associations with the Dance of the Seven Veils.
