The government increased the amount of travel grants to artists and cultural professionals by nearly 40 percent in 2017 to NOK 12.8 million. State Secretary Laila Bokhari announced this today to the seven arts-related organisations (Dance and Theatre Centre, DOGA, Norwegian Film Institute, Norwegian Crafts, Norwegian Literature Abroad, Office for Contemporary Art and Music Norway).
“The travel grant helps Norwegian artists and cultural professionals participate in major international arenas and make their mark abroad. This results in job opportunities and a clearer Norwegian voice in the global dialogue on the development of artistic expression,” said State Secretary Bokhari during the announcement.
The travel grants are awarded to artists invited to participate in professional events and artistic venues abroad. The support is an important example of government efforts to strengthen the international opportunities of the Norwegian cultural industries.
