Philharmonic rework
The Oslo Philharmonic is Norway's leading orchestra, performing around seventy concerts per year, primarily in Oslo Concert Hall but also around Norway and abroad. In connection with its 100th anniversary in 2019, they wanted to renew their visual identity as something that was "both contemporary and timeless" as well as appealing to younger audiences and the over-sixties alike. In other words, no simple task.
Panel remarks
The panel was impressed with how they managed to not only renew the visual identity but also solve a communication challenge using such simple tools. Indeed this is more than a visual profile – it's a complete typographic system joining orchestras with guest performers, musical pieces, and composers in a very clever and elegant way. Avoiding the trap of going all out emotionally and expressively, they have instead used fresh and innovative thinking around form and function.
The result is a clean-cut and attractive identity with excellent functionality that is both strong and playful at the same time.
