Collaboration for unity
MakersHub was founded to explore how designers can meet today's societal challenges in a socially responsible manner. We use architectural tools to combat prejudice, passivity, and the social exclusion of marginalised groups in our society. We use participation as an active tool to bring about increased belonging, and self-building as a tool for empowerment.
Panel remarks
An impressive project that brings about greater inclusion of marginalised groups through the use of design and user participation. Incidental to this, the project examines the social responsibility of designers – especially those practising in the field of interior architecture – and raises awareness around this issue. It is hard to know where to start when praising MakersHub: how they use interaction to promote unity; how the projects show in practice that integration is about mutual understanding of goals and intentions; or how they cleverly reflect and comment on the importance of architecture’s role in creating a fair society. There is such a lot here, but this is also, quite simply, a very, very impressive and fine project and a worthy candidate for the DOGA Honours Award.
