Take back the streets!
Langbordet is a collaboration between the City of Oslo and students at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design and is currently set up in two places in the Kvadraturen district of Oslo – Kjeld Stubs Gate and Øvre Slottsgate. The project is part of the “car-free city life” initiative, which was set up to promote city life and a better urban environment in Oslo city centre.

Panel remarks
This is a very appealing and clever project. Achieving a lot with limited resources, the team has created a hardy framework for a kind of multifunctional street furniture suitable for work, play, eating, or meeting friends. The shape itself is well-dimensioned, and the choice of coarse timber as a material suits the rough structure of the city streets and gives them a new organic content. This is urban development on a limited budget, and it scores highly on the environment criterion, although figuratively in this context. The fact that the project is a multidisciplinary collaboration between students and professionals from different fields adds to the contribution’s strength.
