Innovation for all 2018

Dublin City Planner, Dublin City Council

Dick Gleeson is a professional town-planner, though he would be more comfortable calling himself an urbanist. He held the position of Dublin City Planner for a decade to 2014, during which he had responsibility for strategic forward planning of the city, and championed systems thinking, sustainability, and urbanism. He has participated in all phases of the European COST project ‘People Friendly Cities’ and was a member of the working group producing the Brussels Charter on Collaborative Urbanism. As an independent urbanist, Dick Gleeson is involved with multiple initiatives in Ireland which need to challenge the institutional, top-down mind-set and delivery system, of traditional urban planning.
